Academic Coaching provides individualized support to help undergraduate students develop the skills, habits, and strategies needed for academic success. Through one-on-one meetings, students work with a coach to set goals, strengthen academic skills, and navigate challenges throughout their college journey. While academic advising focuses on course selection, degree planning, and support, academic coaching emphasizes holistic growth, learning strategies, and goal setting. Our coaches empower students to take ownership of their learning, build confidence, and make the most of their University of Iowa experience.

Pathways to Excellence also connects students that may experience academic, personal, or financial challenges that impact their success. Faculty and staff play a vital role in recognizing when a student may benefit from additional support. If you notice a student struggling, you are encouraged to refer them to campus resources designed to help — including our office, student care and assistance, office of student financial aid, university counseling service and more. Working together, we can ensure every student has the tools and support they need to thrive at the University of Iowa.
